The Supreme Court of India (SC) is scheduled to hear a plea demanding transparency in the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET PG) today. This
comes ahead of NEET PG Counselling for 50% All India Quota (AIQ) seats, which is expected to begin after September 5. NEET PG aspirants have filed a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) against the National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS). This came after the board first announced to release the answer key, response sheet, and questions for the exam but later changed its decision. On August 21, NBEMS said it would share the answer key along with the response sheet and full questions for the first time. However, soon after, it issued another notice saying only question IDs from a master set would be displayed instead of the full questions. Doctors and candidates said this step was not “transparent enough.” They argued that showing only question IDs, along with the correct answers and candidate responses, makes it very difficult to verify answers.

“On 27.08.2025 Respondent no. 2 has issued a notice for the availability of All India seats from 5th September 2025, and the counselling/allotment of seats is going to be started on the first week of September, i.e. 5th September, 2025, and if the counselling process starts, then the purpose for filing the present writ petition will become infructuous,” the petition read.The petition further reads, "It frustrates the very object of publishing answer keys and responses, which is to enable candidates to cross-check their answers, raise objections against discrepancies, and ensure transparency in evaluation of a high-stakes national examination."
