New Delhi: A woman, 48, was allegedly stabbed to death inside a temple in New Delhi’s Mansarovar Park area on Sunday, the police said. While the police arrested
the main accused on the same day, another person is currently on the run, according to news agency PTI. The police have launched an investigation into the matter and are trying to ascertain the reason behind the alleged murder. According to officials, the incident came to light when a Police Control Room (PCR) call was received around 12 PM. "The caller told the team that two boys stabbed a woman priest on the head," Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Prashant Gautam said to PTI in a statement.
What Happened?
The victim, identified as Kusum Sharma, a resident of East Delhi’s Mansarovar Park, was offering her prayers inside a temple in the DDA flats complex. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds to her head and upper body. She was rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur Hospital in Dilshad Garden, where the doctors declared her dead on arrival.
Preliminary investigation into the incident revealed that two people repeatedly attacked the victim with a knife, causing fatal injuries. Police said that several teams from the crime units and the district were engaged in pursuing the two accused, one of whom was detained later in the day on Sunday.

"We have detained the main accused, a woman identified as Anchal Saxena. The weapon of offence has also been recovered," The DCP said in a statement. Second Person Remains Unidentified While the identity of the second assailant is not confirmed yet, surveillance and local intelligence are being used to actively pursue them. Family members, neighbours and local residents have been questioned by the police to piece together a possible sequence of events leading up to the incident. Officers are reportedly scanning CCTV footage from multiple locations in and around the DDA flats, including entry-exit points, parks and streets near the incident spot to trace the movement of the murderers following and prior to the crime.
Forensic teams have examined the spot. Technical surveillance and local intelligence are being used to establish the identity of the other assailant.
Reason Yet to Be Known
Why the assailants attacked Sharma remains unknown till now. However, efforts are underway to establish an exact motive. Initial inquiry indicates either a personal enmity between the two parties or a targeted attack, police officials told PTI.
"All angles are being thoroughly investigated, including personal disputes. At this stage, nothing is being ruled out," the officer said. A murder case has been filed at the Mansarovar Park police station, and other legal proceedings are underway.
