What is the story about?
Passengers travelling through Mumbai's Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport faced disruptions after multiple flight cancellations and delays
by SpiceJet due to operational and weather-related issues on Wednesday (April 29). The airline has issued a statement assuring that steps are being taken to minimise inconvenience for affected travellers.
Which Flights Were Cancelled And Why
Three SpiceJet departures from Mumbai were cancelled, including SG 631 (Mumbai-Delhi), SG 553 (Mumbai-Gorakhpur) and SG 669 (Mumbai-Bengaluru). According to the airline, the cancellations were due to a combination of operational reasons, including the grounding of an aircraft and adverse weather conditions at the previous station of the aircraft in Bagdogra. These factors also led to crew limitations under Flight Duty Time Limitations (FDTL) rules, which further affected scheduling.
Flights Delayed Due To Weather Disruptions
In addition to cancellations, two Mumbai-Ahmedabad flights were delayed. SpiceJet said the delays were caused by adverse weather at previous stations, including Varanasi and Bagdogra, which impacted aircraft rotation and timing. The airline confirmed that both flights later departed after delays once conditions stabilised.
Airline Response And Passenger Assistance
To manage the disruption, SpiceJet said it is operating additional flights to accommodate affected passengers and reduce inconvenience.“We regret the inconvenience caused to our passengers and appreciate their understanding,” the SpiceJet spokesperson said.
Air passengers are advised to check flight status before heading to the airport, especially during periods of changing weather conditions and operational disruptions.
