Four people were killed and six others injured in a cloudburst in remote village in Jammu and Kashmir's Kathua district amid heavy overnight rains. A joint
team of police and SDRF have been rushed to the village and is engaged in rescue operations. The officials said the cloudburst hit Jod Ghati in Rajbagh area of the Kathua district during the intervening night of Saturday and Sunday, snapping access to the village and causing some damage to land and property, reported PTI. Landslide has also hit Bagard and Changda villages under the jurisdiction of Kathua police station and Dilwan-Hutli in Lakhanpur police station area. The damage is yet to be ascertained, officials said.
Rescue Ops Continue in Kishtwar
The sudden flash flood in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar district on August 14 has claimed 60 lives. Meanwhile, more than 100 people have been injured and 82 people have been reported missing.
The Chositi village, a base camp for the annual Machail Mata Yatra, was bustling with pilgrims when the disaster struck between 12 noon and 1 pm on Thursday. Operations are underway to rescue the people stranded in affected areas.
The floods, accompanied by mudslides and debris flows, buried homes, shops and vehicles, leaving casualties and many missing persons. The flash floods also swept away a security camp and several vehicles parked at the bus stand. A temple in the middle of the flooded area miraculously survived.
The chief secretary of Jammu and Kashmir, Atal Dulloo, on Saturday visited the cloudburst-hit Chisoti village and reviewed the rescue and relief operations. He held detailed deliberations with the rescue teams from the NDRF, SDRF, local police, and security forces on the measures taken so far.
Sharp Increase in Water Levels
The heavy rainfall has led to sharp increase in the level in most of the water bodies, with the Ujh river flowing near the danger mark. The officials said that the administration is closely watching the situation and have requested people to stay away from water bodies.
