Kerala Education Minister V. Sivankutty on Friday (April 10) chaired a meeting to review the possibility of conducting SSLC examinations in Gulf countries,
which had been put on hold due to the ongoing conflict in West Asia, officials stated. Meanwhile, there are reports suggesting that the General Education Department might consider cancelling the SSLC exams and awarding marks based on internal assessment averages. However, officials have not confirmed this yet. According to a statement issued by the minister’s office, the state government will seek permission from the Election Commission to conduct the SSLC examinations in the Gulf region. The aim is to resume and complete the exams as soon as possible, addressing students’ concerns after they were paused due to the ongoing conflict. The statement also highlighted that since the Model Code of Conduct is currently in place, the government must obtain prior approval from the Election Commission before announcing the exam schedule and issuing related guidelines. The statement further said that the minister has directed the General Education Department to complete all necessary preparations for conducting the examinations. As per the official figures, as many as 417,497 students are appearing for the SSLC examination this year, which was scheduled at 3,047 centres across the state. Also, 633 students from Lakshadweep have registered for the SSLC examination.
Kerala Postpones Exams in Middle East
The Kerala education authorities have decided to postpone the 2026 board examinations that were scheduled to be held in the Middle East. The announcement was made by General Education Minister V Sivankutty earlier. He stated that the SSLC and Higher Secondary exams planned across the Gulf region this week have been deferred for now due to rising tensions in West Asia.
Sivankutty explained that the worsening security situation in the Middle East has made it extremely difficult for the state government and the Directorate of Higher Secondary Education (DHSE) to safely conduct the examinations in the region.
As of now, the new exam dates for SSLC and HSC have not been decided and will be announced once the situation becomes better. The minister assured support to all enrolled students with the Kerala education board. “The General Education Department stands with the students in this matter,” he said.
