Hyundai Motor India has ended calendar year 2025 on a high note, as its most popular SUV, the Hyundai Creta, achieved its highest-ever annual sales in
India. With more than 2 lakh units sold in a single calendar year, the Creta has once again proved why it remains one of the most loved and trusted SUVs in the country, even a decade after its launch. Hyundai sold an average of around 550 Creta SUVs every single day in 2025 and this is no small feat, especially in a highly competitive mid-size SUV segment where new models are launched almost every year. Yet, despite growing competition, the Creta has managed to lead from the front and continue its dominance for the last five years on a cumulative basis. Over the years, it has evolved from being just another SUV option to becoming a household name. According to Hyundai, the Creta has recorded a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of over 9 percent between 2016 and 2025, which highlighs its steady and sustained popularity. Today, it holds a market share of over 34 percent in the mid-size SUV category. Commenting on this achievement, Tarun Garg, Managing Director and CEO of Hyundai Motor India Limited, emphasised that the Creta’s journey has been extraordinary. He highlighted that this SUV has not only become the highest-selling mid-size car every completed year since its launch, but also the highest-selling in India on a cumulative basis from 2020 to 2025. According to him, the Creta has transformed from a capable SUV into a trusted four wheeler for Indian families, road trips and daily commuting. One of the most interesting trends Hyundai pointed out is the growing number of first-time car buyers who choose the Creta. In 2020, first-time buyers accounted for 13 percent of sales, but by 2025 this number had grown sharply to 32 percent. This shows how the Creta is attracting new customers who are upgrading to a premium SUV. Customer preferences have also evolved, with sunroof-equipped variants contributing over 70 percent of Creta sales in 2025. Diesel models continue to remain popular as well, making up a strong 44 percent share of total sales. Another key reason behind the Creta’s success is its wide range of engine and transmission options as Hyundai offers a 1.5-litre petrol engine, a 1.5-litre diesel engine and a more powerful 1.5-litre turbo petrol engine, paired with multiple manual and automatic gearbox choices and adding to this flexibility, the Hyundai Creta is now also available in an electric version, which makes it future-ready and suitable for a wider set of buyers.
