Electric mobility fans are celebrating the 6th World EV Day on September 9, 2025. The campaign was first created to raise awareness and promote a global
shift towards electric vehicles. In India, we are currently in the midst of a mass EV adoption, as the government is driving its target of 30 percent EV penetration by 2030. While EV adoption continues to grow in our country, the EV infrastructure and electric vehicles have seen tremendous growth over the last 6 years. 1. Tata Tiago EV:
The Tata Tiago EV is one of the first truly accessible electric cars that was introduced to drive mass adoption. It arrived first in September 2022 and held the title of being the most affordable EV until the MG Comet EV was introduced in April 2023. Now available in its facelifted avatar, the Tata Tiago is priced between Rs 7.99 lakh to Rs 11.14 lakh ex-showroom. It offers two battery pack options, with capacities ranging from 19.2 kWh to 24 kWh, and a claimed range of up to 315 km for the long-range version.
2. Citroen eC3:
The Citroen eC3 is another Made-in-India compact electric that makes electric mobility accessible to families. It is priced between Rs 12.90 lakh to Rs 13.41 lakh ex-showroom and offers a claimed range of up to 320 km (ARAI) derived from a 29.2 kWh battery pack. The eC3 is also the first electric car to be exported from India to ASEAN and African markets in April 2024.
3. Tata Nexon EV:
The Nexon EV is often credited with being the first EV to kick off mass adoption across the country. Launched in January 2020, the Nexon offered Indian families an electric car that offered value, comfort and practicality in an affordable price range. Now in its second generation, the Nexon EV offers a 30 kWh and a 45 kWh battery pack option. With multiple variants on offer, the Nexon EV is priced between Rs 12.49 lakh to Rs 16.99 lakh ex-showroom.
4. MG Windsor Electric:
The MG Windsor is the new kid on the block, which has grown exponentially in popularity since its launch in September 2024. It offers a roomy cabin, high-tech features and two different battery sizes between 38 kWh and 52.9 kWh, offering a range of up to 449 km (MIDC) on the long-range version. Its popularity can be measured by the 27,000 units it sold in the first eight months since its launch and the Windsor is also affordable with a price tag ranging between Rs 14 lakh to Rs 17.25 lakh ex-showroom.
5. Mahindra BE6:
Since its launch in February 2025, the Mahindra BE6 has quickly become the poster child of what Indian engineering can achieve in the EV segment. It offers a futuristic design, high-tech interiors and over 500 km range from the base model. With a starting price of Rs 18.90 lakh ex-showroom, the BE6 offers a 59 kWh battery giving a claimed range of 557 km on a full charge for the smaller Pack ONE variant.
These electric cars prove the power of Indian automotive engineering on the world stage. With products like the Nexon EV and the BE6 setting global benchmarks, the 6th World EV Day would be the right occasion to tip our hats in respect to Indian ingenuity.
