Launched on August 15, 2025, the FASTag Annual Pass is designed to bring convenience to regular highway travelers. By making a one-time recharge of Rs
3,000 private vehicle owners will be entitled to either get up to 200 free trips or enjoy unlimited travel on National Highways (NH) and National Expressways (NE) for a full year. However, it does not mean that the pass gives access to the whole toll network. Its usage is limited only where the toll plazas are managed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), which leaves several state-operated expressways outside its scope. Four Expressways Where the Pass Doesn’t Apply
In Uttar Pradesh, travelers will have to keep paying at the following state-run expressways with the regular FASTag since the Annual Pass isn’t accepted here. These include:- Yamuna Expressway
- Agra–Lucknow Expressway
- Purvanchal Expressway
- Bundelkhand Expressway
See the bigger picture: while it works well on centrally controlled expressways and highways, state-managed routes still require per trip charges- particularly many of the busiest corridors of UP.

What You Should Know Before You Travel
Despite its limitations, the FASTag Annual Pass has gained significant traction with over 1,40,000 users on the first day itself and registrations crossing the mark of half a million within just four days. For motorists who ply National Highways (NH) and North Eastern (NE) roads quite frequently, the Annual Pass will provide savings of up to 70% besides reducing delays at toll booths.Tip: Check if your road trip will take you through any state-run expressways, especially in Uttar Pradesh (UP). If it does, be ready to pay the usual FASTag fees even if you have an Annual Pass. But for routes handled only by central authorities, the pass gives a smooth travel experience.
