Adventure motorcycles are no longer just for hardcore riders or long-distance travellers. With the launch of the TVS Apache RTX 300, TVS Motor Company
is making this category more accessible to everyday riders in India. Starting at Rs 1.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and going up to around Rs 2.29 lakh (on-road in New Delhi), the Apache RTX is positioned as an entry point into the world of touring and light off-roading. But what exactly do you get for this price? Engine At the heart of the RTX is a 299.1cc liquid-cooled engine, producing 36 PS of power and 28.5 Nm of torque. For beginners, this simply means the bike has enough strength for both city riding and highway cruising. It comes paired with a 6-speed gearbox, along with features like a quickshifter (which allows clutchless gear changes) and a slipper clutch (which prevents wheel locking during sudden downshifts). These features are usually seen on more expensive bikes, making the RTX feel more premium. Performance-wise, the bike can go from 0-60 km/h in just over 3 seconds, and has a top speed of around 140 km/h. At the same time, it offers a claimed mileage of about 32 km/l, giving it a good balance between performance and efficiency. Design What makes the RTX stand out is its ability to handle different terrains. It gets 41 mm upside-down (USD) front forks and a rear monoshock, both offering 180 mm suspension travel. In simple words, this helps the bike absorb bumps and rough roads more comfortably. With 200 mm ground clearance, the bike can handle bad roads, speed breakers, and even mild off-road trails without scraping underneath. Add to that a 19-inch front wheel and dual-purpose tyres, and you get a motorcycle that’s ready for both city streets and weekend adventures. Features The RTX is not just about hardware, but it also packs a lot of technology. It comes with four riding modes - Urban, Rain, Tour, and Rally. These modes adjust how the bike behaves depending on the situation. For example, Rain mode reduces power to prevent slipping, while Rally mode allows more freedom for off-road riding. You also get cruise control for relaxed highway rides, traction control for better grip, dual-channel ABS with switchable rear ABS and a 5-inch TFT display with Bluetooth and navigation. For new riders, these features act like a safety net, making the bike easier and safer to handle. Comfort The Apache RTX has been designed with long rides in mind. It gets a comfortable upright riding position, a 12.5-litre fuel tank, and a riding range of around 450-500 km. The seat height is 835 mm, which might feel slightly tall for shorter riders, but the overall design ensures good visibility and control. Variants And Customisation The bike is available in multiple versions-
- Base variant - Covers all essentials like LED lighting and riding modes
- Top variant - Adds features like Bluetooth and quickshifter
- BTO (Build-to-Order) - Offers extras like adjustable suspension and tyre pressure monitoring
The TVS Apache RTX 300 is more than just a new bike, as it is a statement that adventure riding in India is becoming more accessible. For Rs 1.99 lakh, it offers a package that blends performance, comfort, and technology in a way that appeals to both beginners and experienced riders.
