Under the earlier GST structure, luxury cars attracted 28 percent GST along with a 22 percent compensation cess, taking the total tax incidence to 50 percent.
With the revised GST 2.0 framework, vehicles longer than 4,000 mm and equipped with petrol engines larger than 1,200 cc or diesel engines larger than 1,500 cc now fall under a 40 percent slab. While this remains the highest bracket, it still marks a notable reduction from the earlier regime. Audi has confirmed that the reduced tax rates will directly translate into lower ex-showroom prices. Depending on the model, buyers can now save between Rs 2.6 lakh and Rs 8 lakh.
