Toyota recently did the global premiere of the new-generation Hilux pick-up. Apart from the reliable diesel-powered Hilux, Toyota also surprised everyone
by introducing the all-electric Hilux as a key highlight. Since its official unveiling, the new Hilux has now scored a 5-star crash safety rating at the Australian NCAP (ANCAP) safety tests. The safety rating comes weeks after the Hilux was introduced in New Zealand and later in Australia. Here are the safety scores from the assessment of the new Toyota pickup. The new Hilux has several active and autonomous safety features as standard, including 7 airbags, auto emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure warning and emergency lane keeping assist. The ANCAP assessment scores reveal the Toyota Hilux scored 84 percent in adult protection, 89 percent in child protection, 82 percent in vulnerable road user protection and 82 percent in its safety assist assessment.
The ANCAP 5-star rating applies to all 2025 Toyota Hilux Dual Cab and Single Cab Chassis Variants that feature both four-wheel-drive and rear-wheel-drive versions. However, the safety rating does not apply to the Hilux Rugged X as an exception, the Hilux BEV safety ratings are also not in yet.

While the 5-star safety rating is good news for Toyota customers in New Zealand and Australia, it is important to note that the older model had scored 96 percent in adult occupant protection back in 2019. Which is 8 percent higher than the new model's assessment rating.
When Will It Come To India?
For fans of the Hilux waiting in India, the new-generation pickup is expected to debut in the country in January 2026. It remains to be seen how well it will fare in the Bharat NCAP crash safety assessment and if Toyota will consider bringing the all-electric version into India soon.
