What is the story about?
The KTM 990 RC R Track has made its global debut as the circuit-only version of the upcoming 990 RC R supersport. The most important change is focused
on shedding maximum weight with the help of racing bodywork and removing all road components. For Indian customers, this is less about the product and more about KTM planning to offer a large-capacity RC range above the RC 390. The Track variant demonstrates the performance potential and racing capability available in the 990 RC R range. It also confirms that the standard 990 RC R is the only road-going variant with any hope of relevance in the Indian market if KTM launches its high-end sportbike range in the country. What Changes In The 990 RC R Track Version
The Track model introduces race fairings in place of the street body panels, and the lighting, mirrors, emission components and other road-legal components have been removed. KTM equips this version with a track exhaust system, adjustable suspension package and race-focused controls that are optimised for track ergonomics. The braking components and suspension flexibility are also meant for track use.The engine base is the same 990 cc LC8c parallel twin found in the base model 990 RC R. However, the power output has gone up to 135 hp (about 5 hp increase), while the torque now stands at 105 Nm.
KTM’s focus is not on maximum power gain but on enhanced power-to-weight ratio through weight reduction and racing components. The electronics package is set up for track use, with sophisticated rider aid system adjustment appropriate for the circuit conditions.
What Does Not Change From Standard 990 RC R
The Track variant basically uses the same underlying platform: engine configuration, frame design and supersport geometry are all the same. It is not a homologation model by itself or a new level of performance. KTM classifies it as a race-prepared variant of the road bike, not a new line of models. This is important for consumers. The Track variant does not signify an increase in engine power or a new generation of chassis; it is a stripped-down, race-ready version of the same 990 RC R.Also Read: KTM 250, 390 Adventure Get Free Accessories And 10-Year Extended Warranty
