The Piaggio India has unveiled the Vespa Tech 80th Special Edition in India. This debut marks 80 years since the original Vespa from 1946 came into being.
The edition is essentially a special one because it introduces a limited-run scooter: just 100 units, which are focused on design exclusivity instead of performance upgrades. Offered in both 125cc and 150cc versions, the Tech 80th blends retro styling with modern underpinnings. It is positioned as a niche product for buyers who value heritage, design identity as well as limited availability over outright practicality or affordability.
Design And Edition-Specific Details: What Sets It Apart
The biggest change is visual. The Tech 80th Edition uses a “Verde Pastello” green shade inspired by Vespa models from the late 1940s. This colour is applied across multiple elements including the body, mirrors, grab handle and even the front suspension linkage, giving it a uniform finish.There are clear anniversary identifiers as well. The front gets an ‘80th’ badge alongside the Vespa logo while the rear features a marking that reads “80 years of Vespa Est. 1946.” Wheels are styled after the original Vespa 98 and are finished in the same green tone with diamond-cut detailing.
Despite these changes, the scooter retains Vespa’s metal body construction and classic silhouette. What this really means is the update is cosmetic and commemorative and not structural. Buyers are essentially getting a standard Vespa with a distinct visual identity tied to the brand’s history.
Engine, Hardware And Features: No Mechanical Changes
Mechanically, the Tech 80th Edition remains unchanged. It will be available with two engine options: a 124.4cc unit producing around 9.5 hp and 10.1 Nm, and a 149.5cc engine delivering about 11.4 hp and 11.6 Nm.The scooter continues to use Vespa’s current platform, so suspension, braking and overall riding dynamics remain identical to standard models. Feature-wise, it carries over existing equipment such as LED lighting and connected tech from higher variants, rather than introducing new hardware.
Pricing has not been fully detailed at unveiling but early indications suggest a premium over standard Vespa models.

This scooter is not really for value-focused buyers.
