It's an interesting time for scooter buyers in India, as we are seeing a sudden influx of homegrown 150cc segment maxi-scooters. Compared to a regular
scooter, a maxi-scooter is typically larger in size and has a displacement of 125cc or above. They are known to offer a better ride quality and more power, making them suitable for longer journeys. Until now, there has been only one maxi-scooter on sale in the Indian market. The common denominator between the wave of new maxi-scooters is an affordable price tag of under Rs 1.60 lakh ex-showroom. However, things changed very quickly in September 2025, as two homegrown rivals emerged from the houses of TVS Motors and Hero MotoCorp. The TVS Ntorq 150 and the Hero Xoom 160 promise the thrill of riding a powerful scooter while undercutting the Aerox 155 in price. Here's a quick comparison to help you understand which of these three scooters is the most bang for your buck on paper.
1. Engine Performance:
⦁ The Yamaha Aerox gets a 155 cc liquid-cooled engine with VVA tech. It produces 15 hp @8,000 rpm and 13.9 Nm of torque 6,500 rpm, giving it a 0-60 kmph time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 120 kmph.
⦁ The Hero Xoom 160 gets the highest displacement in this comparison. The 4-valve, 156cc motor is again liquid-cooled, promising peppy performance. It produces 14.6 @8,000 rpm and 14 Nm of torque @6,500 rpm. However, despite its higher displacement and gruntier torque figure, the Xoom 160 does 0-60 kmph in 6.5 seconds and has a slower top speed on 100 kmph.
⦁ The TVS Ntorq is modest on paper in this comparison. It gets a 3-valve, 149.7cc single-cylinder engine. The point to note is that the TVS gets just air-cooling in comparison to the liquid-cooled engines offered by rivals. The Ntorq's engine produces 13 hp @7,000 rpm and 14.2 Nm torque @5,500 rpm. This gives the Ntorq 150 a competitive 0-60 kmpg time of 6.3 seconds and a top speed of 104 kmph.
2. Features And Practicality:
⦁ The Yamaha Aerox 155, being the oldest in this comparison, has started to show its age in this department. It gets an inverted LCD instrument cluster, single-channel ABS and Bluetooth connectivity and also a smart key. However, Riders can access more riding data through the Y-Connect app on their smartphones. Practicality is taken care of by a 24.5-litre underseat storage space.
⦁ The Hero Xoom 160 is more suited for the tech-savvy riders in this comparison. It gets features such as a Smart Key, i3s Silent-start, a digital LCD instrument cluster with turn-by-turn navigation and the option of touring accessories as well. On the front, it has a disc brake with single-channel ABS and block-pattern tyres. Practicality is taken care of with a 22-litre underseat storage space, which is smaller than the Yamaha's.
⦁ The TVS Ntorq takes features up a notch with its 5-inch TFT screen and SmartXonnect connected features with Alexa and smartwatch integration. It also offers Bluetooth connectivity, turn-by-turn navigation, front disc brake with ABS and a traction control system. On the storage end, the Ntorq 150 offers a 2-litre front glove box and a 22-litre underseat storage space.
3. Pricing:
⦁ In this comparison, the Yamaha Aerox 155 is the costlier option to go for, despite its shortcomings in the tech department. Prices for the Aerox 155 start from Rs 1.50 lakh and go up to Rs 1.54 lakh for the S variant.
⦁ The Hero Xoom 160 has been priced at a slightly lower Rs 1.49 lakh ex-showroom. It is exclusively available through Hero MotoCorp's 'Premia' dealerships. The up-to-date arsenal of features in the Xoom 160 improves its value proposition in comparison to the Yamaha.
⦁ The TVS Ntorq 150 is the most affordable in this comparison, with its ex-showroom price of Rs 1.19 lakh. This makes the Ntorq 150 a more lucrative deal, considering similar performance figures and more flashy tech.
