Yamaha has officially taken its first step into electric scooters with the roll-out of the Yamaha EC-06 from River Mobility’s manufacturing facility in Hoskote,
Karnataka. This roll-out aligns closely with the Government of Karnataka’s Industrial Policy 2025–30, which strongly supports future-ready technologies such as electric mobility and advanced manufacturing. International firms from Japan, Europe and the United States, including large manufacturers like Foxconn, have expanded their presence in the state and by hosting Yamaha’s first electric scooter production activity, Karnataka continues to strengthen its position as one of India’s leading EV-friendly states. The Yamaha EC-06 is designed mainly for first- and last-mile commuting which means short daily trips. This scooter focuses on practicality, efficiency and ease of use rather than outright performance. The EC-06 is powered by a 4kWh fixed battery, paired with an electric motor that produces 8.9 bhp. The scooter has a claimed top speed of 90 kmph. Yamaha also states a certified riding range of up to 160 km on a single charge which makes it suitable for multiple days of urban use on one charge, depending on riding habits. It takes about 9 hours for charging EC-06 fully, which means it can be conveniently charged overnight at home. Yamaha EC-06 - Features The EC-06 comes with a colour LCD display and offers three riding modes that allow riders to balance performance and efficiency. A reverse assist function is also included, which helps when parking or manoeuvring in tight spaces. Yamaha EC-06 - How Is It Compared to ‘Indie’ Platform The Yamaha EC-06 is built on the same platform as the Indie electric scooter which shared similar battery capacity, motor output and riding range, however, there are noticeable differences in design and practicality, as the EC-06 features a more angular and sharp design, while the Indie follows a more rounded and softer styling approach. Looking at the storage, the EC-06 offers 24.5 litres of underseat space, which is significantly less than the Indie’s 43-litre storage.
