After crushing Afghanistan by an innings and 300 runs in the one-off Test at Mullanpur earlier this week, the Indian men’s cricket team will take on the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side in a three-match ODI
series. The first match of the maiden bilateral ODI series between India and Afghanistan is scheduled to be played at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) Stadium in Dharamsala on Saturday (June 13), while the remaining two matches will be held in Lucknow on June 17 and at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on June 20.
Former India captain Rohit Sharma has cleared his fitness test and is all set to open the innings in the first ODI against Afghanistan. By featuring in India’s playing XI for the series opener, Rohit will break a 37-year-old record held by former all-rounder Mohinder Amarnath.
Rohit, who has scored more than 11,000 runs in ODIs and over 20,000 runs in international cricket, will become the oldest Indian cricketer to play an ODI match on June 13.
The current record is held by Mohinder Amarnath. The 1983 World Cup final Player of the Match was 39 years and 36 days old when he played his last ODI for India against the West Indies at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on October 30, 1989.
Rohit, meanwhile, will be 39 years and 44 days old on June 13, 2026.
The overall record for the oldest cricketer to play an ODI is held by Netherlands top-order batter Nolan Clarke.
Clarke was 47 years and 257 days old when he represented the Dutch team against South Africa in Rawalpindi on March 5, 1996.
