The Indian top-order faltered in the first ODI against Australia on Monday, resulting in a 7-wicket defeat in a rain-affected game. While Virat Kohli got out for an 8-ball duck, Rohit Sharma and Shubman
Gill collectively scored only 18 runs before getting dismissed inside the Powerplay. As India trail 1-0 in the 3-match series, they are expected to bounce back strongly before it’s too late. However, rain once again threatens to disrupt India’s preparations ahead of the second ODI on Thursday, much like it did earlier in the week.
According to a RevSportz report, the Gill-led side had initially planned an indoor training session in Adelaide due to persistent showers. However, as soon as the skies cleared, the ground staff quickly readied the outdoor nets, allowing the players to train under open conditions.
With damp patches still a concern, the fast bowlers decided to take it easy. Harshit Rana and Arshdeep Singh bowled short spells of about 15 minutes each to the top-order batters before heading to the gym, where they joined Mohammed Siraj and Prasidh Krishna for strength work.
Rohit Sharma was the first to pad up, focusing specifically on countering Josh Hazlewood’s hard-length deliveries — the very kind that had got him out for eight in the first ODI. He was also seen in a deep conversation with Shubman Gill, exchanging technical ideas during the session.
Meanwhile, Virat Kohli, who had fallen to Mitchell Starc for an eight-ball duck in Perth — reigniting talk around his World Cup place — channelled that frustration into an intense 45-minute net session.

After a brief warm-up, he reportedly asked the throwdown specialists to bowl ‘full throttle’ and was visibly fired up, talking to himself and maintaining high energy throughout. Though he edged a few and mistimed some shots, Kohli remained composed and finished strong, producing several crisp drives and powerful pulls.
Head coach Gautam Gambhir was an active presence during the session, frequently interacting with players and offering technical feedback on their batting.
The second ODI will be played in Adelaide on Thursday.
