Ram Gopal Varma has been showering Ranveer Singh-starrer Dhurandhar with praise, and the filmmaker claimed that now, with Aditya Dhar’s directorial success, producers and other filmmakers are “scared.”
In a recent conversation, Varma claimed that Dhurandhar has “made everyone rethink.”
Speaking to NDTV, he shared, “I’m not trying to demean any film, but the type of action in which people are thrown in the air… The audience is used to seeing that kind of action in big films that have been released in the last 7–10 years. In Dhurandhar, the action seems real; it is how it will happen, and that is being liked so much more by the same crowd who watches over-the-top action.”
“I think makers will have a wake-up call now. They will be scared about whether that kind (over-the-top) of action will work now after this film. It is a film that made everyone rethink, go back to the scripts that are under production. I know 3–4 director friends of mine who are scared about what is going to work, whether what they are making will work. That is the effect of this film. This is why I think it is far more than just a film. This is the reason I called it a quantum leap,” Ram Gopal Varma added.
About Dhurandhar box office
On its 22nd day in cinemas, the Aditya Dhar directorial added a little over ₹15 crore to its tally, taking its net domestic collection to ₹648 crore. With this,Dhurandhar has surpassed the lifetime earnings of Shah Rukh Khan’s Jawan, which had collected ₹640 crore in India, and claimed the top spot among Bollywood releases.
The film has shown remarkable consistency since release, crossing major milestones in quick succession. Before edging past Jawan, it had already overtaken the domestic totals of Chhaava (₹601 crore) and Stree 2 (₹598 crore), firmly establishing itself as the biggest Hindi film at the Indian box office. Trade estimates suggest the film is now on course to cross ₹700 crore domestically and could even challenge Pushpa 2: The Rule for the highest Hindi collections in India.
In Dhurandhar, Ranveer Singh plays Hamza, an Indian intelligence operative sent deep into Pakistan to dismantle terror and crime networks operating out of Karachi. The film also features Akshaye Khanna, Arjun Rampal, Sanjay Dutt, and R. Madhavan in key roles. A sequel is already in the pipeline, with Dhurandhar Part 2 slated for release in March 2026.
