Bhubaneswar, Sep 11 (PTI) Heavy rain lashed the southern and western parts of Odisha on Friday, owing to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal, the IMD said.
In a bulletin, the India Meteorological
Department (IMD) said very heavy rainfall was recorded at six stations, while 23 other places received heavy rain in the state.
The highest rainfall of 16 cm was recorded at Golamunda in Kalahandi district followed by 14 cm each at Madanpur Rampur, Bhawanipatna, and Junagarh, it said.
The IMD has issued a warning for 12-20 cm rainfall in the districts of Nawrangpur, Koraput and Malkangiri till 8.30 am on Saturday. An alert for heavy rainfall has also been sounded in Kandhamal, Ganjam, Rayagada, Gajapati, Bolangir, Nuapada and Malkangiri for the day.
The bulletin stated that squally winds reaching speeds of 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph is likely to prevail over the north and central Bay of Bengal, along and off Bangladesh-West Bengal-Odisha-North Andhra Pradesh coasts during the next 48 hours.
Sea condition is also likely to be rough to very rough over the north and central Bay of Bengal during the period, it added. PTI AAM RBT
