The West Bengal Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on Tuesday reached the Kolkata residence of Trinamool Congress (TMC) supremo and former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee after the party’s National
General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee skipped the summons.
Abhishek Banerjee, who is the nephew of the former West Bengal CM, was asked by the CID to appear before it at its south Kolkata headquarters on Tuesday for questioning in connection with the legislators’ signature forgery case. This was the third summons issued to the TMC leader in link with the case. The probe agency had set a 5 pm deadline for the TMC General Secretary.
It is learnt that the CID had handed the letter to the TMC MP’s aide, identified as Subhasish, at his residence on Kalighat Road in south Kolkata on Monday. So far, the probe agency has not received any response from the MP regarding the summons notice. The CID has claimed that the whereabouts of the TMC MP, who was in Delhi along with the ex-CM for a crucial INDIA bloc meeting on Monday, were not known.
Further, the MP’s aide, who is the in-charge of his office, told the CID that his leader is currently in the national capital, claiming that he has asked for more time to appear for the questioning.
What Is Signature Forgery Case?
The case stems from alleged mismatches in the signatures of some Trinamool Congress legislators on a crucial resolution concerning appointments to key Opposition posts in the West Bengal Assembly.
