Long before politics officially became a part of his journey, Vijay often found himself at the centre of conversations about leadership, both on-screen and off. Over the years, fans picked up political
references in his films, speeches and public appearances and now, one particular detail from a movie has returned to the spotlight after his 2026 election victory.
Filmmaker Venkat Prabhu recently met Vijay with a special keepsake linked to their film The Greatest of All Time, popularly known as The GOAT. In the film, Vijay’s character used a vehicle bearing the number plate ‘TN 07 CM 2026’ — something fans now see as an uncanny prediction of his rise to become Tamil Nadu’s Chief Minister this year.
To mark the moment, Venkat framed the number plate and presented it to Vijay. The customised frame featured shades of black, brown and copper, along with the yellow-and-red colours associated with Vijay’s political party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. It also included a still of Vijay and the director sharing a fist bump, with a plaque that read: ‘The first manifestation by VP & team’.
Photos from their meeting quickly made their way online, with both Vijay and Venkat seen smiling as they posed with the framed number plate.
Sharing the pictures on X, Venkat wrote, “A history is made..From a thought… to a vision… to this moment. Happy to have met our honourable CM @TVKVijayHQ na today and present the very first manifestation of #GOAT. (red heart emojis).”
He further hinted at bigger ambitions ahead for Vijay by adding, “This is only the beginning. TN07CM2026.”
Interestingly, this isn’t the first time someone from the film industry has spoken about Vijay’s political future being discussed years ago. Bengali actor Tota Roy Chowdhury recently recalled an incident from the sets of Kaththi while speaking on Straight Up with Shree.
Tota remembered shooting an important scene that earned applause from the crew before Vijay’s secretary invited him to meet the actor privately. Recalling the interaction, he said, “He was so polite, he told me to sit down and asked, can I offer you some coffee? While drinking coffee, he spoke. He asked where I am from, and apologised for not knowing much about me. I work in regional films, he said. Then he said, I really liked working with you. Very nice. He was such a gentleman.”
The actor added that after the meeting, Vijay’s assistants reacted with excitement over the interaction. “They were like, he chatted with you? He offered you coffee? I was like, why do you see him in that way? They said, what are you saying? He is the future CM of our state. It is now that I realise this. This was in 2013. I remembered this conversation with the assistant when Vijay formed his party,” he recalled.
Before stepping away from films completely, Vijay still has one unreleased project lined up — Jana Nayagan, directed by H Vinoth. The film was initially scheduled to hit theatres in January but was delayed indefinitely due to pending certification from the CBFC.
The project also ran into trouble earlier this year after an HD print was leaked online in April. Authorities later confirmed that nine arrests had been made in connection with the leak.
