Ranchi, Jan 15 (PTI) The minimum temperature plummeted to 0.8 degrees Celsius in Jharkhand’s Gumla district on Thursday, amid a cold wave alert for 13 districts, an IMD official said.
A ‘yellow’ alert (be
updated) for cold conditions has been issued for Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, Hazaribag, Latehar, Ramgarh, Bokaro, Lohardaga, Ranchi, Gumla, Khunti, Simdega and West Singhbhum till 8.30 am on Friday, he said.
Gumla recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 0.8 degrees Celsius on Thursday, followed by Khunti and Daltonganj – 2.7 and 3.7 degrees Celsius respectively, the IMD said in a bulletin.
The minimum temperature in Bokaro and Simdega was recorded at 4.9 and 5.2 degrees Celsius, respectively, while Lohardaga registered 6.0 degrees Celsius.
State capital Ranchi logged 9 degrees Celsius and Seraikela 6.1 degrees Celsius, it stated.
The cold conditions are triggered by north-westerly to westerly winds prevailing in lower tropospheric levels over Jharkhand, the bulletin said.
“No significant change is likely in the minimum temperatures during the next two days. Thereafter, it may increase by up to 3 degrees Celsius,” Deputy Director, Ranchi Meteorological Centre, Abhishek Anand said.
Meanwhile, the Ranchi administration issued an advisory, urging people to take precaution from the cold.
“In this situation, it is extremely important to protect oneself from health problems caused by the cold,” Ranchi Deputy Commissioner Manjunath Bhajantri said in a statement. PTI SAN RBT
