Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief Vijay held his first mega public thanksgiving rally in Tiruchirappalli on Monday, where he hit out at rivals for criticising his government just days after assuming
power.
Addressing the rally, CM Vijay took a dig at the DMK, saying, “It has not even been a few weeks since we came to power. Those who said they would remain silent for six months could not remain silent even for six days. They began complaining within half an hour of us assuming office. The people of Tamil Nadu have rejected the two parties that alternated in power and deceived them for years.”
“You have chosen Vijay your elder brother, your younger brother not as the Chief Minister, but as your chief servant who has come to work sincerely for you,” he added. “We could have done better, but I thank you for the support you have extended to TVK.”

The actor-turned-politician appeared confident about getting a thumping majority in future elections and also requested his rivals to keep criticising him. “It will help us in performing better,” he asserted.
TVK Vs DMK
Vijay also repeated that the recently concluded election was a direct contest between the TVK and DMK and rejected allegations of horse-trading to form the government. He also accused the DMK and AIADMK of forming an unusual coalition to prevent the TVK from coming to power.
He said the DMK’s poor performance was a reflection of people’s dissatisfaction with ‘family politics’, drug menace and crimes against women. He also assured corruption-free governance under the TVK and an end to all caste-based politics.
Praising the historic voter turnout in Tamil Nadu, Vijay said, “They said that even late CM MG Ramachandran did not secure this much vote share in his very first election. Yet today, you have extended such tremendous support to the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam. I am not comparing myself to MGR. MGR. is MGR., but I am your Vijay, who has come to work in the path shown by MGR., Anna, and Periyar.”
Why Is Vijay Wearing A Suit?
Vijay also referred to questions on why he was wearing a suit during his public appearances. “Are we not allowed to wear a coat and suit? Is it meant only for people in positions of authority? There is nothing like that. I am not wearing many colours. It is just black and white, like all our hearts. The choice of these colours is to show that I will remain transparent and simple in everything, just like black and white,” he said.
Vijay made his spectacular political debut by contesting from two seats: Perambur in Chennai and Trichy East. While he later vacated the Trichy East seat, he emphasised that the people of the constituency will always be very close to him.
The TVK reshaped Tamil Nadu politics by winning 108 out of the total 234 seats. The rally coincides with a major political shift in the region, as several opposition AIADMK functionaries and legislators have recently defected to join the ruling TVK.
