US President Donald Trump joked that he could move to Israel and become its prime minister if Americans ever got tired of him, while claiming a 99% approval rating in the country.
Speaking to Fox News on
Tuesday, coinciding with Election Day in the US, Trump praised Israel as a close partner and said he enjoyed overwhelming public support there.
“I’m at 99% approval rating in Israel. Can you believe it? In fact, if people ever got tired of me in the US, I’ll move to Israel and become prime minister,” he said.

Trump also claimed to have the highest approval rating of anyone in history and credited his actions against Iran for his popularity in Israel.
“They’ve been a great partner, but what we did, we stopped Iran. Iran was an unstoppable force. We knocked the hell out of them,” he added.
Trump Ends US Military Aid Deal With Israel
In the same interview, Trump said the US would end its 10-year security assistance agreement with Israel, which provides $3.8 billion in annual military aid until 2028.
He said Israel no longer needed the assistance and claimed he had discussed the decision with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“Israel’s our number one; we give them more than anybody else, and they no longer need it … If they did need it, I would say keep it going,” Trump said, adding that Washington would still help Israel if required.
The agreement, signed in 2016 under former President Barack Obama and implemented in 2019, provides funding for Israel to purchase US weapons.
Netanyahu has previously expressed a desire to reduce Israel’s dependence on American military support and increase its defence independence.
However, the announcement drew criticism from Israeli opposition figure Gadi Eisenkot, who questioned the way the change in the security relationship had been handled and called for Netanyahu to be replaced.
“The fact that Israel’s defense establishment is learning of a shift in our strategic relationship through the media, at the same time as the Israeli public, shows just how dangerous Benjamin Netanyahu’s conduct is,” Eisenkot said in a statement.
“He can no longer be trusted and must be replaced.”
