Soha Ali Khan invited her mother Sharmila Tagore and niece Sara Ali Khan on her YouTube channel, and among other topics, the trio talked about parenting. While Sharmila Tagore had her own years of wisdom,
she admitted that she has learnt a lot about raising kids from her children over the years. Explaining the same, she shared anecdotes from Sara and Ibrahim Ali Khan’s childhood.
Sharmila Tagore said that she had learnt a lot from her kids as she saw them become parents, and that unlike her, who relied on older members in the family for raising children, the current generation was more dependent on books and their acquaintances. She noted, “Saif has been an excellent parent. I have seen him with you (Sara). Like if they had to go to a premiere in the middle of the night, she went with them but we can see it hasn’t harmed her, and she would come back and do her homework.”
Sharmila Tagore Recalls Ibrahim Ali Khan’s Childhood
She remembered another episode from Ibrahim Ali Khan’s childhood, when Saif showed her that being perfect wasn’t the most important thing. “With Ibrahim, I remember… I think it was Pataudi and they were doing the Christmas tree and I was trying to be perfect and trying to put it in the right way. And Ibrahim was putting it all over the place. So Saif said, ‘Do you mind? It has to be participative’. I also learnt that you don’t have to be perfect but allow the children to grow at their own pace. And he has been really really wonderful,” she said.
On the work front, Sharmila Tagore returned to Bengali cinema after 14 years with the 2025 feature Puratawn. Suman Ghosh directs the film, which Rituparna Sengupta produces under her brand Bhavna Aaj O Kal. Sharmila plays a matriarch whose memory is fading, while Rituparna plays her daughter. Indraneil Sengupta and Brishti Ray also play major roles. The film received positive reviews and became one of the most popular Bengali releases of 2025.
