Food experiments regularly grab attention, especially when they involve popular dishes with a twist. From colourful desserts to unusual street food combinations, social media has become a hub for showing
such innovations. While some food trends receive appreciation for their novelty, others spark debates among viewers who prefer traditional flavours. Recently, a video featuring an unusual version of a dosa has started circulating widely online.
The clip shows a black-coloured dosa being prepared at a cafe in Nagpur, Maharashtra.
Video Shows Black Dosa Being Prepared
The viral video reportedly comes from Yello Cafe in Nagpur. What immediately stands out in the clip is the colour of the dosa batter. Instead of the familiar golden shade, the batter appears black. This visual has caught the attention of viewers. The preparation process itself, however, looks similar to how a regular dosa is made.
In the video, a cook is seen pouring the black batter onto a hot griddle. The batter is spread evenly into a thin circular layer and left to cook for a few moments. Soon after, a portion of aloo masala is placed at the centre. As the dosa cooks, it turns crisp around the edges. The cook then folds it neatly and places it on a plate.
According to the text shared with the video, the dish is available at “All About Idli,” located inside Yello Cafe. The caption describes the dosa as “super crispy” and highlights its unique appearance. It also mentions that the cafe serves the dish during breakfast hours from 7:30 am to 11:30 am.
Social Media Users React
Many viewers who saw the video expressed concern about altering a classic South Indian dish. Several users took to the comment section to share their opinions. One person wrote, “South Indian food ko kharab karne wale log.” Another user commented, “Please don’t spoil the original food.” The phrase “Justice for dosa” appeared repeatedly in multiple comments.
Some viewers were not angry but curious about the ingredients used to achieve the unusual colour. One user asked whether charcoal had been added to the batter. Another simply questioned the idea, writing, “Why just why?” Others asked the creators of the video to explain what exactly was used to make the dosa appear black.
The black dosa from Nagpur has now become the latest example of this ongoing debate. Whether praised as an innovative idea or criticised for altering a classic dish, the video has certainly captured the internet’s attention.
