Veteran actress Kamini Kaushal passed away on November 14 at the age of 98. With a career spanning over seven decades, she left an indelible mark on Indian cinema. The actress was widely considered India’s
oldest living film actress. Her demise has left the entire film fraternity in mourning.
Actor Shahid Kapoor, who shared screen space with Kamini in the 2019 film Kabir Singh, paid tribute to the actress. He recalled his experience of working with her and called it both a “privilege and pleasure.”
Shahid Kapoor Recalls Working With Kamini Kaushal
Speaking to ANI, Shahid Kapoor called Kamini a “wonderful soul” and lauded her professionalism and warm nature. He said, “She was such a wonderful soul, and working with her was just a pleasure and a privilege.”
He added, “She brought a lot of warmth and a lot of dignity to Kabir Singh and she will always be remembered for being a fantastic artist. When I worked with her, she was so sharp, and she was so professional, and she was so kind and warm. May her soul rest in peace.”
Shahid Kapoor Pays Tribute To Kamini Kaushal
Following her demise, Shahid also took to Instagram to pay a tribute to the legendary actress. He shared a collage featuring a younger and older version of Kamini and wrote, “Rest In Light, Ma’am.”
Kamini played the role of Shahid Kapoor’s character Kabir Singh’s grandmother in Sandeep Reddy Vanga’s film.
On the work front, Shahid is currently busy filming Cocktail 2 with Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna.
Kamini Kaushal’s Career Over Seven Decades
Kamini Kaushal’s final rites were performed on Saturday in the presence of close family members. Earlier, her mortal remains were taken from her Mumbai residence to the crematorium.
She began her career as a leading heroine and delivered a memorable performance in the acclaimed Neecha Nagar. Her other notable films include Do Bhai (1947), Shaheed (1948), Nadiya Ke Paar (1948), Ziddi (1948), Shabnam (1949), Paras (1949), Namoona (1949), Arzoo (1950), Jhanjar (1953), Aabroo (1956), Bade Sarkar (1957), and Jailor (1958).
Later in her career, Kamini transitioned to character roles and became especially well-known for portraying Manoj Kumar’s on-screen mother in several of his films. Together, they worked on seven films: Upkar, Shaheed, Purab Aur Paschim, Sanyasi, Shor, Roti Kapda Aur Makaan, Dus Numbari, and Shanti.
A prominent actress of the 1940s, 1950s, and 1960s, she starred alongside leading icons of Indian cinema, including Ashok Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand, Dilip Kumar, Raaj Kumar, Dharmendra, and many others.
