A man who climbed onto the roof of a moving train triggered a 40-minute disruption in Uttar Pradesh’s Pratapgarh on Saturday, after authorities were forced to shut down power and halt rail operations to rescue
him.
The incident took place around 4:20 pm, when the New Delhi-Manduadih Kashi Vishwanath Express stopped briefly at Maa Belha Devi Dham railway station. The 27-year-old man, reportedly identified as Mohammad Anas of Sant Kabir Nagar, climbed onto the roof of a coach.
Man Sprints Across Train Roof
When the train began moving again, Anas remained on the roof and later ran across multiple coaches even as the train travelled under high-voltage overhead lines, as seen in videos uploaded on X.
The caption of one of the videos read, “A major accident was narrowly averted at Mauhar Phatak in Pratapgarh. As soon as the train’s speed slowed a bit, a young man suddenly climbed onto the moving train. Seeing this, chaos erupted among the people present at the scene.”

Constable Chases, Detains Man
As per reports, a GRP team reached the stopped train soon after and tried to convince the man to come down, but he kept running across the coaches. A GRP constable eventually climbed onto the roof, chased him across several compartments, and detained him around 5:10 pm.
In the video, he was seen resisting detention, after which a few other men climbed onto the roof to help restrain him, and he was then brought down safely.
He was taken into custody. Rail traffic on the Prayagraj-Lucknow line was halted before services resumed.
