Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport at Bhogapuram in Andhra Pradesh, a project developed for Rs 5,000 crore and regarded as a major boost
to the state’s infrastructure network.
Located in Vizianagaram district, the airport has been built with an initial capacity to handle six million passengers annually. The state government has planned future expansions that could increase its capacity to 40 million passengers a year, positioning it as a key economic and connectivity hub for North Andhra.

Officials said the airport has been equipped with several advanced technologies, including artificial intelligence-based systems, Building Information Modelling (BIM), Airside 4.0 technologies, an Airport Predictive Operations Centre (APOC) and biometric passenger processing facilities.
The terminal’s architecture draws inspiration from Andhra Pradesh’s cultural traditions. Its roof design reflects the style of traditional Chuttilu cottages, while other elements take cues from the scenic landscapes of the Araku Valley.
Following the inauguration, the Prime Minister toured the terminal building along with Andhra Pradesh Governor S Abdul Nazeer and Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu.
PM Modi’s visit also includes the inauguration and foundation stone laying of projects worth nearly Rs 18,000 crore spanning sectors such as semiconductors, power transmission and road infrastructure.
After the airport event, the Prime Minister proceeded to a public gathering where more than 13,500 tribal women and students greeted him with a Dhimsa dance performance.
Among the key projects scheduled during the visit is the foundation stone laying for the Rs 460 crore ASIP Semiconductor Project in Visakhapatnam. The facility is being developed by ASIP Technologies Pvt Ltd in collaboration with APACT of the Republic of Korea.
The project is the first semiconductor manufacturing facility in Andhra Pradesh to receive approval under the India Semiconductor Mission. It is expected to produce approximately 96 million chips every year and contribute to the growth of a semiconductor ecosystem in the region.
In the energy sector, Modi will lay the foundation stone for the transmission system meant to integrate the Kurnool-IV Renewable Energy Zone (REZ) Phase-I project with a capacity of 4.5 GW. The project, being implemented by POWERGRID, involves an investment of about Rs 5,550 crore.
The Prime Minister will also inaugurate transmission infrastructure associated with the Kurnool Wind Energy Zone and Solar Energy Zone, besides solar power transmission schemes in Ananthapuram and Kurnool.
Additionally, he will dedicate and launch National Highway projects worth more than Rs 1,880 crore. These include a four-lane access-controlled greenfield highway stretch between Recherla and Guruvaygudem on NH-365 BG, as well as a high-level bridge at Lingasamudram on the Penchalakona-Yerpedu section of NH-565.
