Homi Adajania’s Cocktail 2 has crossed the Rs. 100 crore mark worldwide within six days of its release. While the milestone gives the Shahid Kapoor-starrer a boost, its performance at the domestic box
office has slowed after a strong opening weekend, putting the focus on how the film holds up in the coming days.
According to Sacnilk, the film earned Rs. 5 crore on Wednesday, taking its six-day India net collection to Rs. 66 crore. After a promising start over the weekend, the film saw a sharp dip on Monday, remained steady on Tuesday and slipped again on Wednesday.
The worldwide numbers, however, paint a brighter picture. Cocktail 2 has collected Rs. 102.76 crore gross globally in six days, becoming the latest Bollywood release to enter the Rs. 100 crore club.
Cocktail 2 Needs A Strong Second Weekend
Although the worldwide collection has crossed a major milestone, the domestic box office remains under watch. Reports suggest Cocktail 2 has been made on a budget of around Rs. 150 crore, though the makers are yet to officially confirm the figure.
Based on its current trend, the film is expected to end its first week with around Rs. 70-71 crore net in India.
The challenge could become tougher from Friday, when Welcome To The Jungle arrives in cinemas. The Akshay Kumar-led entertainer is expected to compete for screens and audience attention, making the coming days important for Cocktail 2.
Mixed Reviews Add To The Challenge
The film has received mixed reactions from critics and audiences since its release. While some praised its music and performances, others felt it did not match the appeal of the original film.
News18 gave the film 2.5 stars and wrote, “What we’re left with is a one-tone, predictable and quintessential Bollywood love triangle where two women squabble over a man, who doesn’t quite have the pull or the comic timing of Cocktail’s Gautam (played by Saif Ali Khan). To put it plainly, Cocktail 2 is like old wine in a not-so- new bottle that we’ve tasted too many times.”
