A surprising incident from Lucknow has drawn attention to how far some illegal dairy operators are willing to go to escape action. During a routine enforcement drive, civic officials discovered that livestock
had been hidden inside residential rooms.
According to a report in Bhaskar English, the incident was reported from the Bijnor area under Zone-8 limits of the Lucknow Municipal Corporation (LMC). The civic body had launched a drive to crack down on dairies functioning illegally within city limits after repeated complaints from residents.
Buffaloes Hidden Inside Houses In Lucknow To Dodge Action
As per the report, when the municipal team reached Royal City Colony in the Gadora area, dairy operators attempted to avoid penalties by locking their animals inside homes. In one case, buffaloes and goats were confined inside a bedroom by a dairy owner. A video related to the incident has also surfaced online.
The footage shows municipal officials bringing buffaloes out from inside the house and loading them onto vehicles.
Resistance From Locals During The Drive
Officials reportedly faced resistance while carrying out the operation as locals surrounded their vehicles in an attempt to block the action. Despite the obstruction, the team continued its work and remained on the spot for nearly three hours before successfully removing the animals from the houses.
Several animals were recovered from residential premises during the drive. Officials said that the action was taken to address unhygienic conditions and illegal operations by certain dairies in the locality.
During the operation, the municipal corporation reportedly seized 11 buffaloes, four heifers, three cows and one calf. These animals were later shifted to the Aishbagh Kanji House where they will remain until the owners pay the required penalty, officials told the publication.
Complaints Triggered The Action
The report stated that the drive was initiated after local residents repeatedly complained about animal waste being dumped in open plots and sewage lines. These practices caused severe filth, waterlogging and raised concerns over mosquito-borne diseases in the locality.
Joint Operation By Multiple Departments
The enforcement drive was carried out jointly by the municipal enforcement wing, police personnel and the animal welfare department. Animal Welfare Officer Dr Abhinav Verma told the news portal that action against illegal dairies will continue.
As per the Municipal Corporation Act, 1959, rearing buffaloes is not allowed within urban limits as they are categorised as pollution-causing animals. Residents are allowed to keep only up to two cows and that too with a valid licence.
