India allrounder Hardik Pandya is set to undergo assessment on his left quadricep injury he picked during last month’s Asia Cup in the UAE. The 31-year-old suffered the fitness setback during a Super Four
clash between India and Sri Lanka which forced him to miss the title clash against Pakistan.
According to a report in the timesofindia.com, Pandya is set to check in at the BCCI Center of Excellence in Bengaluru today and the future course of action with regards to his rehab will be decided after a thorough examination.
India are set to face Australia in three ODIs and five T20Is starting November 19. With Pandya not making the cut due to fitness concern, India have picked young allrounder Nitish Kumar Reddy in both the squads.
The publication further reported that should Pandya’s injury not require surgery, he might end up being back in action as early as next month.
India Squad To Leave Tomorrow
Meanwhile, the India squad will depart for Australia from the national capital on Wednesday. Eyes will be on veterans Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli who are set to make their competitive return in Australia. Neither of the two has played any competitive cricket since IPL 2025 while their last international fixture was the final of the ICC Champions Trophy in March.
Meanwhile, India head coach Gautam Gambhir has refused to speculate over the ODI futures of Rohit and Kohli.
“The 50-over World Cup is still two and a half years away. It is very important to stay in the present. Obviously they are quality players. They (Rohit and Kohli) are coming back. Their experience is going to be valuable in Australia,” Gambhir told reporters on Tuesday.
“Hopefully those two guys can have a successful tour, and more importantly, as a team we can have a successful series,” he added.
