Fire and heavy wreckage were reported in Maharashtra’s Baramati after an aircraft linked to NCP chief and Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar crashed while attempting an emergency landing.
Pawar
was among the five people killed in the crash, which also claimed the lives of two pilots and two passengers.

Visuals from the scene showed the aircraft reduced to twisted metal, with smoke rising from the debris as police, emergency personnel, and other officials carried out rescue and recovery operations. Local residents were also seen gathered near the crash site as authorities secured the area.

Pawar was travelling to Baramati to attend a public rally ahead of the Zilla Parishad elections. Earlier in the day, he was in Mumbai, where he participated in a meeting of the Maharashtra Cabinet Committee on Infrastructure chaired by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis. Maharashtra minister Chandrashekhar Bawankule and senior officials were also present at the meeting.
Ajit Pawar was among Maharashtra’s longest-serving deputy chief ministers, holding the post non-consecutively for six terms across different governments. He served as deputy chief minister in the administrations led by Prithviraj Chavan, Devendra Fadnavis, Uddhav Thackeray and Eknath Shinde.
