Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday expressed confidence that the BRICS Summit, being held on September 12-13 in New Delhi, would pave the way for meaningful discussions on various issues.

X, PM Modi said: “In the next few days, leaders from around the world will gather for the BRICS Summit. We are confident that the summit will lead to positive and meaningful discussions on various issues, with a view to world welfare.”

India is hosting the two-day BRICS Summit in New Delhi on September 12-13, with several world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, to participate in the event.
The summit is expected to focus on strengthening collective resilience in various sectors including food, energy, disaster reduction and critical supply chains. Pertinent to note that the 18th BRICS Summit is being held against the backdrop of a tense geopolitical situation driven by the US-Israeli war on Iran.

Putin Arrives In New Delhi
Russian President Vladimir Putin landed in New Delhi on Friday, September 11, and was received by Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh.
Accompanied by a high-level delegation, Putin landed at Palam Air Force Station. This will mark his first in-person participation at a BRICS summit outside Russia since Moscow’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
The Russian President and Prime Minister Modi are scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting at 3:30 PM today, Friday, with the talks expected to focus on strengthening cooperation in various sectors and the current geopolitical scenario in view of the conflicts in Ukraine and West Asia.

Among the world leaders to participate in the BRICS Summit are: Chinese President Xi Jinping, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, Russian President Vladimir Putin, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim, UAE Crown Prince Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed and Vietnamese Prime Minister Le Minh Hung.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, WTO chief Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus and New Development Bank President Dilma Rousseff will also attend the two-day event in New Delhi.
