New Delhi, Sep 16 (PTI) Delhi has secured the first position in the India Electric Mobility Index (IEMI) 2025 released by the National Institution for Transforming India (NITI) Aayog on Wednesday, scoring
84 points, Transport Minister Pankaj Singh said.
The index assesses states and Union territories on key parameters such as transport electrification, EV charging infrastructure, and research and innovation. Delhi has left behind Maharashtra, which ranked second with 78 points, followed by Karnataka with 73, Chandigarh with 71 and Goa with 65 points.
“Delhi securing the top position in the NITI Aayog index is national recognition of the city’s environment-friendly and sustainable transport policies. Delhi government is continuously working towards making electric mobility a people’s movement and developing a modern and world-class EV ecosystem in the capital,” Singh said.
Singh added that the government’s endeavour is not merely to increase the number of electric vehicles, but to develop a modern, clean and sustainable transport system for Delhi that also meets the needs of future generations.
Delhi’s performance has been supported by the EV Policy 2026, which provides financial incentives to EV buyers and promotes the expansion of the charging network.
“The Delhi government is also expanding the deployment of electric buses, with a target of putting 14,000 electric buses on the roads by financial year 2028-29,” the transport Minister said in a statement.
He added that the recognition by NITI Aayog would encourage the government to accelerate efforts towards expanding electric vehicles, charging infrastructure and the electrification of public transport. PTI SSM APL APL
