A big opening does not always guarantee an easy run, and The Raja Saab is now facing that reality. After a solid first day at the box office, the The Raja Saab box office Day 2 numbers show a clear slowdown,
sparking fresh debate around the film’s long-term prospects. Starring Prabhas, the Maruthi Dasari-directed film hit theatres on January 9. The opening day brought in strong numbers, driven largely by fan shows and festive momentum. However, the second day has seen a noticeable dip. Day 1 vs Day 2 numbers On its first day, The Raja Saab collected Rs 63.3 crore net, which included Rs 9.15 crore from special shows held across Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Kerala on Thursday. The film benefited from early-morning and midnight shows, especially in Telugu-speaking regions. According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the film earned Rs 27.83 crore on Day 2. While this figure is not weak by general standards, it marks a sharp fall from the opening day and has raised questions about word of mouth. How it compares to Prabhas’ past openings For Prabhas, opening day numbers have often been much higher. Apart from Baahubali: The Beginning, which opened at just over Rs 5 crore, most of his recent films have posted massive starts. Baahubali: The Conclusion earned Rs 121 crore on Day 1, while Saaho opened at Rs 89 crore. Salaar, directed by Prashanth Neel, collected Rs 90 crore on its first day. Against that backdrop, The Raja Saab’s opening, though strong, does not rank among Prabhas’ biggest. Shows and language split On Day 1, The Raja Saab had over 6,500 shows across India. Telugu led with 3,247 shows, followed by 3,043 Hindi shows and 380 Tamil shows. The wide release helped the film post high initial numbers, but sustaining those figures remains the challenge. Competition ahead from Thalapathy Vijay film The coming days may not be easy. With Jana Nayagan still awaiting a new release date, the arrival of Parasakthi could impact collections. In addition, the release of Chiranjeevi’s Mana Shankara Vara Prasad Garu may further divide audience attention. Prabhas on stepping out of his comfort zone Prabhas has spoken openly about wanting to try different genres. In an earlier interaction with Sandeep Reddy Vanga, he said, “I get bored doing just one genre. So I did Darling 15 years ago, and everyone thought it wouldn’t work. But it did work, and now I want to show the Indian audience that I can try this also.”
