In a major boost to the government’s ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision in the technology sector, global cybersecurity firm SISA has launched a nationwide initiative titled “Cybersmart Bharat”, aimed at strengthening
cybersecurity awareness and skills among Indian youth.
As part of the programme, SISA has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Unnati, a listed social organisation, to train 25,000 students over the next two months. The training will focus primarily on students from government schools and rural backgrounds, equipping them with essential cybersecurity knowledge and practical skills.
Speaking at the launch, SISA Founder and CEO Dharshan Shanthamurthy said the initiative aligns closely with the goal of making India self-reliant in critical technology domains. He said cybersecurity skills are becoming increasingly vital to safeguard the country’s digital infrastructure and protect “digital borders.” Shanthamurthy added that the programme also aims to position India as a global talent hub for cybersecurity, with plans to train over one lakh students across the country in the coming months.
“Cybersmart Bharat is very closely associated and inspired by ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat’ vision. One of the key things that we all need is to be able to be self-reliant and cybersecurity skills are extremely important for everyone… in order to protect our digital borders…In addition, we are also solving the huge problem of making India a skill hub for cyber security as part of Atmanirbhar Bharat,” Shanthamurthy said.
“The initiative is a one-of-its-kind where we would go about training people on cyber security, especially youth…,” noting that this initiative addresses both digital security and the need to create skilled professionals who can pursue careers in this growing field.
An official from Unnati said the organisation aims to reach at least 25,000 young people by March through training programmes conducted in government institutions nationwide. “What this is going to do is make our country secure. The youth will understand the importance of cybersecurity,” the official said.
