According to a Hindustan Times report, nearly 2,500 personnel from the Delhi Police and central armed paramilitary forces, including commandos from the Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) unit of the Delhi Police’s Special Cell, will be deployed for security and traffic management.
The Prime Minister is expected to visit the ground around 6.30 pm, an officer was quoted as saying.
Only people carrying valid entry passes issued by the organisers will be allowed inside the venue during the Prime Minister’s visit. Mandatory searches and frisking will be conducted at the entry gates.
The report said the Special Protection Group (SPG) has taken control of the venue and multiple rounds of anti-sabotage checks have been conducted to detect suspicious objects.
Multi-Layered Security At IP Extension Venue
According to the report, the SPG will oversee the innermost security cordon, while personnel from the Prime Minister’s security wing of the Delhi Police, including commandos, will form the middle layer. Local police personnel will manage the outer security cordon.
The arrangements include surveillance of high-rise buildings along the Prime Minister’s motorcade route and around the venue. Tactical teams have also been deployed on rooftops at strategic locations to respond to potential threats.
Door-frame metal detectors, hand-held metal detectors and baggage scanners have been installed at entry gates. Sniffer dogs, quick reaction teams, ambulances and patrol vans will also be deployed.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) Rajeev Kumar said elaborate security and traffic arrangements had been made for Dussehra events at the IP Extension ground and other venues in his jurisdiction.
The report also said aerial surveillance using drones was being carried out around the venue.
Delhi Traffic Police Issues Advisory For Dussehra
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory warning of possible congestion and diversions, particularly in east Delhi, amid the expected movement of large numbers of vehicles and pedestrians.
According to news agency ANI, traffic diversions will be implemented as required between 5 pm and 8 pm on Tuesday on major roads in east Delhi.
The roads likely to be affected include NH-24, Vikas Marg, Road No. 57, Road No. 57A and Road No. 56.
The Delhi Traffic Police advisory stated, “In view of the Dussehra celebrations on 20.10.2026 and the expected heavy movement in the area of East Delhi, a large number of devotees, visitors and pedestrians are expected. Traffic congestion and slow movement of vehicles are likely during the event.”
Commuters have been advised to plan alternative routes, allow additional travel time and park only in designated parking areas.
The police have also warned that illegal roadside parking will attract enforcement action and urged motorists to drive slowly near celebration grounds because of heavy pedestrian movement.
Security Arrangements Across Delhi
Security has also been stepped up at Ramlila grounds and Durga Puja venues across other parts of the capital, ANI reported.
DCP (West District) Hareshwar V Swami said police personnel had been deployed at 43 locations hosting Ramlila events and 16 locations celebrating Durga Puja. Additional personnel from the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF), including female police officers, will assist with security arrangements.
Joint Commissioner of Police Suman Goyal said arrangements had been made to manage large crowds and expected VIP movements across the Western Range, including Dwarka.
She said the police’s primary objective was to ensure that the festivities concluded peacefully and smoothly without causing inconvenience to the public.
Central Range DCP Traffic K Ramesh said special traffic arrangements had been in place for Ramlila events for the past 10 days.
Additional traffic personnel have been deployed near busy locations, including Hanuman Mandir and Delhi Gate, to manage crowds and guide visitors.
