Shimla, Aug 10 (PTI) More than 120 roads were closed for vehicular traffic in Himachal Pradesh as light to moderate rains continued to lash parts of the state, officials said on Monday.
According to the
State Emergency Operation Centre (SEOC), as on Monday morning, 124 roads were closed in the state while 255 transformers and 17 water supply schemes were disrupted due to torrential rains.
The Shimla Meteorological Office on Monday issued an ‘orange alert’ for heavy to very heavy rain at isolated places in the state on Monday and Tuesday.
The alert is for Kangra on Monday and Kangra, Mandi and Sirmaur districts on Tuesday.
Light to moderate rain continued to lash parts of the state since Sunday evening. Dharamshala received 61.1 mm of rain, followed by Arki 55 mm, Paonta Sahib 43.8 mm, Shimla 40.8 mm, Jogindernagar 37 mm, Jubberhatti 35.2 mm, Ghaghas 33 mm, Sarahan 29.5, Kataula 25.4 mm and Slapper 24.1 mm.
Since the monsoon began on June 30, 68 people have died in rain-related incidents, including 14 in landslides and one in flash floods, officials said.
The state has suffered losses amounting to Rs 835 crore, they said, adding that the weather department has predicted a wet spell in the state till August 16. PTI BPL SHS SHS
