As National Democratic Alliance (NDA) swept the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, scenes of jubilation erupted outside the Janata Dal (United) headquarters in Patna. Supporters gathered in large numbers,
bursting firecrackers, waving party flags, and chanting slogans hailing Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The initial results pointed to an emphatic revival for the NDA, triggering an atmosphere of celebration long before the final verdict.
From conch shells being blown to supporters drenched in gulaal-like colours, the JD(U) office turned into a festive ground. Party workers danced to the beats of dhols, distributed sweets, and hugged each other as the NDA’s tally comfortably crossed the halfway mark, inching towards 200 seats.
A chariot bearing Prime Minister Modi’s image and banners praising Nitish Kumar added to the high spirits. One poster read, “2025 ke bhi nayak honge Nitish” (“Nitish will be the hero of 2025 too”), reflecting the confidence among the cadre.

Some supporters even offered sweets to giant posters of Nitish Kumar outside the headquarters. A JD(U) leader, blowing a conch shell, described the moment as a celebration of “good governance”.
Nitish Kumar’s returns
The numbers showed a significant surge for the JD(U). By 1 pm, the party was leading in 79 of the 101 seats it contested. Its ally, the BJP, surged ahead on 90 seats, placing the NDA well above the majority mark.
If these trends hold, Nitish Kumar, already Bihar’s longest-serving Chief Minister, is set to return for yet another term. A newly installed hoarding near his residence in Patna read, “Bihar ka matlab Nitish Kumar” (“Bihar means Nitish Kumar”), encapsulating the confidence of the party and its supporters.
JD(U) leader Chotu Singh captured the celebratory mood, saying, “We congratulate Nitish Kumar. The people of Bihar voted for development and have made him victorious. We will celebrate Holi and Diwali here.”

What JD(U) said?
JD(U) leaders credited the early lead to the public’s trust in the NDA’s governance. One senior leader said, “The people have once again voted for development. They have reposed faith in the work done under the leadership of Chief Minister Nitish Kumar ji and Prime Minister Modi ji.”
