IPL 2025 was a disastrous season for Chennai Super Kings as they finished last in the 10-team standings, failing to qualify for the playoffs for the second season in a row. The started their campaign with
a win over Mumbai Indians before enduring a slump during which MS Dhoni had to step in as captain after Ruturaj Gaikwad was ruled out of the season due to an injury.
Aiming for a vastly improved IPL 2026, the five-time champions could reportedly offload few players including Sam Curran, Deepak Hooda, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tripathi, and Devon Conway as per Cricbuzz.
However, CSK has swiftly responded to the rumours, by jumping onto “we’ve updated the bio” trend on X (formerly Twitter).
“Nothing’s official till you see it here,” reads CSK’s updated bio soon after reports emerged of them releasing several players ahead of the next season.
When Is IPL 2026 Auction?
The publication reports that the IPL auction for the next season could be held in the second or third week of December. While the IPL Governing Council is yet to finalise the date, December 13-15 is the probable window during which the event could be held.
The last two IPL auctions were held overseas – Saudi Arabia in 2025 and Dubai in 2024. All the 10 franchises will have to though announce their list of retained and released players by November 15.
Australia allrounder Cameron Green is expected to be a hot property at the auction with multiple teams showing interest in signing him. Green has previously represented Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru but missed the last season thanks to an injury.
