About Varanasi
The film is directed by SS Rajamouli and written by Vijayendra Prasad. It marks the filmmaker’s first feature since the global success of RRR and brings together Mahesh Babu, Prithviraj Sukumaran and Priyanka Chopra. The film brings together mythology and Indian folklore with science-fiction elements, including time travel, to create a globe-trotting adventure.
Varanasi also marks Priyanka Chopra’s return to Indian cinema after an eight-year gap. The actor’s comeback, combined with Rajamouli’s first film after RRR, has made the project one of the most closely watched productions currently in development.
In a conversation with Variety, SS Rajamouli revealed crucial details about Varanasi. “What I can say is we have completed a major portion of the shoot. All the important, big spectacle action sequences are done. We are [now] into doing the smaller, interconnecting scenes, so hopefully, by September, maybe a little bit into October, we should be finishing shooting,” said Rajamouli.
Varanasi is scheduled for worldwide theatrical release on 7 April, 2027.
