A Reddit user’s post has got everyone talking for the hard lessons it includes about workplace politics. The post further sparked discussions across the platform about initiative, credit and what happens
when jobs meet office ego.
According to the user, they worked as a high-rise window cleaner in the first year of a company that was recently bought out. When they noticed work slowing down for the fall season, they decided to take matters into their own hands. They prepared a detailed slideshow, scheduled a meeting with the owner’s wife who handles marketing and finances and pitched solutions not just for one company but for all three of their businesses.
The response? She loved it so much that she offered them the role of marketer across the companies. It seemed like the perfect opportunity until what happened next.
My Company denied me a job and took my ideas.

Promises were delayed repeatedly and days turned into weeks. Just before Christmas, they were supposed to get the job but it never materialised. When they followed up, the reply was blunt, “There just wasn’t enough money in the budget.” Just two days earlier, the company had hired someone else under the title “People and Success Specialist.”
Ideas Were Stolen
To make matters worse, ideas they shared during the meeting, like opening a bin cleaning company in their city and other simple marketing strategies such as flyers, reward programmes and door-knocking campaigns, suddenly started moving forward without them.
They wrote, “I am really upset because I really thought I had this job.” The user added, “I mean, I was the one who showed initiative, trying to get a meeting with her and giving her ideas and showing her a presentation. What am I supposed to do? Try and fight back and attempt to get the job?”
Redditor’s Honest Advice
One Redditor responded with advice that resonated with many. They shared, “Either quit or take it—it doesn’t matter. She showed her true colours. If you can afford it, start your own bin cleaning company. Besides that, nothing good comes out of resenting the people you work for or just say screw it and completely quit on them?”
This story has sparked debate online about workplace initiative, ambition and how to handle situations when credit is stolen.
