United States President Donald Trump on Tuesday described democratic socialists as the “biggest threat” facing the United States, saying their movement was more dangerous than World War I, World War II,
the September 11 attacks and the attack on Pearl Harbour.
Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump said, “It’s not socialism; it’s really communism. They use the word ‘social democrat’ because it sounds so nice, but it’s really communism you’re talking about.”
“I think it’s the biggest threat to our nation there is, maybe since our founding. That includes World War I, World War II, September 11th, and it includes the Pearl Harbour attack,” he said.
Trump added, “I think this is the biggest threat to our nation. People will smile when I say that, but the smart people are going to say, ‘You know, he’s probably right.'”
Calling it “basically introducing communism into the United States of America,” the president said, “There’s never been anything so dangerous.”

Trump has repeatedly criticised the rise of democratic socialist candidates, including New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani, in recent months.
He renewed those remarks after candidates backed by Mamdani won three New York House Democratic primaries, telling attendees at the Faith and Freedom Coalition’s annual policy conference in Washington that the Democratic Party “is in trouble because this isn’t stopping with New York.”
He also targeted Washington, D.C., mayoral nominee Janeese Lewis George in a Truth Social post, calling her a “communist” and criticising her policy positions.
Trump said Lewis George wants to “empty the prisons, make D.C. a Sanctuary City, oppose ICE, welcome Criminal Illegal Aliens back into our beloved Capital, resist Anti-Crime Crackdowns, Defund the Police, continue and expand Cashless Bail, and so many other Capital destroying ‘things.'”
“In the end, it will never work out, nor will I let it even have a chance because I have worked too hard to make Washington, D.C., the Envy of the World,” Trump said, adding that he would still meet Lewis George if she wins the mayoral election.
