Student-led protests in Ranchi over alleged irregularities in Jharkhand state examinations entered the sixth day on Monday, as demonstrators continued to push for their demands for a Central Bureau of
Investigation (CBI) probe into the matter.
The protest, meanwhile, took a crucial turn after the Cockroach Janta Party –– which spearheaded a similar nationwide agitation over the paper leak in the NEET-UG 2026 examination –– extended its support to the students staging a sit-in at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium.
Alleging wrongdoings in Jharkhand Public Service Commission (JPSC) and Jharkhand Staff Selection Commission (JSSC) examinations, the protesting students have sought a CBI probe into the case.
In a post on ‘X’, CJP’s founder Abhijeet Dipke wrote: “Spoke to the students who are protesting in Jharkhand over irregularities in JPSC and JSSC recruitment exams. The CJP stands with all the students in Jharkhand and supports their demands.”

Ranchi Has Its Own ‘Jantar Mantar’ Moment
The student-led demonstration in Ranchi that comes close to the heels of a widespread CJP protest originally began as a small gathering in Ranchi’s Vapu Batika ground. However, it spiralled into a large-scale campaign, fetching support from students across the state.
Hundreds of students assembled at Ranchi’s Jaipal Singh Munda Stadium on July 29 –– four days after the Jantar Mantar protest ended –– raising slogans and waving the tricolour, while also seeking accountability from the Hemant Soren-led government. Soon, the protest began drawing parallels to the one that unfolded at Jantar Mantar and culminated with the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
Like activist Sonam Wangchuk –– who was on a 26-day indefinite hunger strike –– the protest in Ranchi, too, has found a leading face. Student leader Devendra Nath Mahto is at the forefront of the campaign. He has also begun an indefinite hunger strike, with a simple demand: Cancel the 14th JPSC examination.
About Jantar Mantar Protests
Joined by Sonam Wangchuk, the CJP began a protest over the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak at Jantar Mantar late in June with key demands including: 1. The resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, and 2. Broader educational reforms.
However, it was on July 20 when the protests took a decisive turn. Following the CJP’s call for a ‘Sansad Chalo’ march, thousands of students gathered at the protest site. Defying police barricades and rain showers, they marched towards the Parliament in what became the biggest street-protest in PM Narendra Modi’s third term.
