Mumbai Indians (MI) have received a timely boost ahead of their 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) clash against Gujarat Titans (GT), with Rohit Sharma returning to the nets after recovering from a hamstring
injury.
The former captain sustained the injury during the match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and subsequently underwent scans to determine its severity. Although he tried to continue playing, he was eventually ruled out of the following game against Punjab Kings, with skipper Hardik Pandya earlier suggesting that Rohit could miss at least two matches.
Hitman Back In Nets
However, his recovery has shown promising progress. On the eve of the Gujarat Titans fixture in Ahmedabad, Rohit was seen batting in the nets, looking comfortable and displaying his trademark strokeplay.
His return to training has lifted spirits within the camp, though the team management remains wary of rushing him back into competitive action.
Will Rohit Play GT vs MI?
A final decision on Rohit Sharma‘s availability is yet to be made, with the franchise choosing to monitor his fitness closely during the final training session before the match. “Rohit is batting in the nets in Ahmedabad and continues to be evaluated by the medical team and Mahela Jayawardene, Head Coach,” read a statement from MI.
In Rohit’s absence, Mumbai Indians reshuffled their batting line-up, bringing Quinton de Kock in to open alongside Ryan Rickelton. The move paid immediate dividends, as de Kock smashed a brilliant 112 against Punjab Kings. If Rohit is declared fit, he is likely to open with de Kock, especially with Rickelton struggling for consistency after a strong start to the season.
Rohit has scored 137 runs in four matches so far, underlining his importance to the side. Mumbai Indians, currently at the bottom of the table with just two points after four consecutive losses, are desperate for a turnaround. His return could provide much-needed stability and experience at a crucial stage of their campaign, though the final decision will depend on medical clearance.
