Uzbekistan, at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference, there.
World Science Day highlights the vital role played by science in our society and emphasises on the need for public participation in debates about emerging scientific issues. Through World Science Day for Peace and Development, scientists educate the global citizenry on science’s role in understanding and sustaining our planet. World Science Day For Peace And Development 2025 Theme
The theme for World Science Day for peace and Development, this year, is “Trust, transformation, and tomorrow: The science we need for 2050.” The theme underscores the need to use scientific knowledge and tools in addressing the problems faced in our societies.
In a recorded message, Princess Sumaya bint El Hassan of Jordan highlighted how science plays a key role in ensuring we create a future “that promises greater equality, security and opportunity.”
She added that science also plays a “prominent role as an enabler of fair and sustainable development,” and that people must “work together” to tackle climate change, water shortage and food security.
World Science Day For Peace And Development: History
UNESCO first celebrated World Science Day for Peace and Development in 2002, but the day was first proclaimed in 2001, by UNESCO at its General Conference. It is here that the November 10 date was selected for the annual celebration.
This was the outcome of the1999 World Conference on Science in Budapest, where a commitment was made to attain the goals in the Declaration on Science and the Use of Scientific Knowledge, and also to adhere to the recommendations made in the Science Agenda: Framework for Action, at the Budapest conference.

Since 2001,World Science Day for Peace and Development has had a tremendous impact across the globe in the advancement of science for the benefit of society.
The day has helped nations and communities gather the necessary funds to create sustainable scientific programmes and projects across the globe.
One such UNESCO-supported programme is the creation of the Israeli-Palestinian Science Organization (IPSO).
