The Election Commission of India (ECI) on Wednesday revised the schedule for the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in Delhi, Karnataka, Telangana and Punjab, extending the timeline
for Booth Level Officers (BLOs) to complete door-to-door verification while retaining the overall electoral roll revision programme.
The decision comes a day after the poll panel announced similar revisions for Andhra Pradesh and Haryana, taking the total number of states with updated SIR schedules to six within two days.
According to separate communications issued to the Chief Electoral Officers (CEOs) of the four states, the revised calendar has been approved following requests from the state election machinery for additional time to complete field verification.
For Delhi and Karnataka, house-to-house verification will now continue until August 8, with polling station rationalisation also scheduled to conclude on the same day.

The draft electoral rolls will be published on August 17, while voters can file claims and objections until September 16. After scrutiny and disposal of applications, the final electoral rolls will be published on October 19.
In Telangana, BLOs have been given time until August 3 to complete field verification. The draft electoral roll will be released on August 10, followed by a claims and objections period ending September 9. The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on October 12, after all applications are disposed of by October 8.
Punjab has also received an extension for the verification process until August 3. The draft roll will be published on August 13, with claims and objections accepted until September 12. The final electoral roll will be issued on October 12, following the disposal of all pending applications by October 8.
The revised timelines replace the earlier Phase III schedule under which Telangana and Punjab were to publish draft electoral rolls on July 31, while Delhi and Karnataka were scheduled to release them on August 5.
The Commission, however, has retained the broader sequence of the revision exercise by modifying intermediate deadlines instead of delaying the completion of the process.
The Special Intensive Revision is being carried out across the country in phases to update electoral rolls through extensive field verification. As part of the exercise, Booth Level Officers visit households to verify voter details before draft electoral rolls are published for public scrutiny through claims and objections.
Phase III of the exercise covers 19 states and Union Territories, including Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Meghalaya, Odisha, Uttarakhand, Arunachal Pradesh, Chandigarh, Nagaland and Tripura.
Election officials said the revised schedules are aimed at giving field staff adequate time to complete verification without affecting the broader electoral roll revision programme ahead of future elections.
