The Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) is preparing to launch a new Metro corridor for Greater Noida West, shortly after approving the long-awaited Aqua Line extension that will directly connect Noida with
Delhi through the Botanical Garden. Officials said the proposed Metro route for Greater Noida West has now been revised, with Phase 1 of the project set to include only four stations instead of the 11 originally planned under the earlier blueprint.
The move is being seen as part of a broader effort to strengthen connectivity across Noida and Greater Noida, where rapid urban expansion and rising population density have sharply increased pressure on existing transport infrastructure.
4 Key Stations Included In First Phase
According to officials, the first phase of the revised Metro corridor will include stations at Sector 61, Sector 70, Sector 123 and Greater Noida Sector 4, commonly known as Gaur Chowk. These locations have been selected due to their importance as major residential and transit zones with high commuter movement, as reported by News24.
Authorities believe the shorter Phase 1 alignment will help speed up implementation while still providing connectivity to densely populated areas that currently face limited public transport options.
Direct Link With Delhi Metro Blue Line
One of the key features of the proposed corridor is its planned interchange with the Delhi Metro Blue Line at Sector 61. The connection is expected to allow seamless travel between Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi by enabling commuters to switch between Metro networks more conveniently.
Officials said the interchange would significantly reduce travel time for office-goers, students and daily passengers travelling across the National Capital Region.
The integration is also expected to encourage greater use of public transport and reduce dependence on private vehicles.
Original 18-Km Plan Scaled Down
The initial proposal envisioned an 18-kilometre Metro line extending up to Knowledge Park V. However, under the revised Phase 1 plan, the corridor will now terminate at Gaur Chowk.
Officials clarified that the remaining stretch could still be developed in the future either by NMRC itself or as part of the proposed Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) network. The decision to reduce the scope of the first phase is reportedly aimed at making the project financially and operationally more manageable during the initial stage.
Residents Frustrated Over Delays
Residents of Greater Noida West have expressed frustration over repeated delays in Metro expansion plans and the decision to prepare a fresh Detailed Project Report (DPR). The region, which now houses more than five lakh residents across multiple high-rise residential societies, continues to face serious public transport shortages despite rapid urban growth.
Due to inadequate mass transit connectivity, most residents rely heavily on private cars, cabs, buses and auto-rickshaws for daily travel, leading to severe traffic congestion on key roads and intersections. Many commuters have been demanding faster execution of Metro connectivity projects to improve accessibility and reduce travel time to Delhi and central Noida.
Aqua Line Extension To Strengthen NCR Connectivity
Meanwhile, NMRC is also moving ahead with the 11.56-kilometre extension of the Noida Metro Aqua Line from Sector 142 to Botanical Garden.
Once completed, the extension will provide a direct Metro link between Noida, Greater Noida and Delhi, significantly improving connectivity for commuters travelling across the NCR region.
Officials estimate that the extended Aqua Line could benefit more than four lakh daily passengers while making public transportation more accessible and efficient for residents across Noida and Greater Noida. The expansion is expected to reduce road congestion, improve travel convenience and strengthen integration between different Metro networks operating in the region.
