Farah Khan has shared a surprising anecdote from the making of Tees Maar Khan. The filmmaker revealed that Akshay Kumar used to fly to the film’s set in a helicopter every day, and managed to be the most
punctual person on location. The memory came up during a recent conversation featuring Farah Khan, Akshay Kumar, Priyadarshan and Rajpal Yadav while promoting Bhoot Bangla. As the group looked back on old shoots, Farah recalled what happened during the filming of Tees Maar Khan in Malshej Ghat.
Akshay Kumar’s daily commute on a helicopter left everyone stunned
According to Farah, the cast and crew stayed near the location because travelling from Mumbai took hours. Akshay, however, followed a very different routine. Farah shared, “We were shooting for Tees Maar Khan in Malshej. The call time was 8 am every day. Everyone stayed there because it was about a two-and-a-half-hour drive from Mumbai. But Akshay would go home every evening after pack-up and return by 7:45 the next morning.”
The revelation left Rajpal Yadav visibly surprised. Turning towards him, Farah and Akshay asked, “Bolo kaise?” (Tell us how?) Rajpal had no answer. Akshay then revealed, “I travelled by helicopter.”
Farah Khan jokes about Akshay’s helicopter rides
Farah said the actor’s mode of transport was unlike anything she had seen before.
“For the first time in my life, I saw an actor treat a helicopter like a taxi. But to his credit, he was always on time.”
Akshay quickly pointed out that his travel arrangements did not affect anyone else.
“But how was it anybody’s problem? I was the producer myself.”
Farah had an answer ready. “And so was I.” The light-hearted exchange continued as Farah joked, “Mere saare paise kha gaya (Spent all my money on him).” A stunned Akshay replied, “Main paise kha gaya? You made the most money on that film!” Farah then laughed and said, “Call Ronnie and ask him about our money.”
A film that found a new audience online
Tees Maar Khan was Farah Khan’s third directorial venture after Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om. The film, starring Akshay Kumar, released in 2010 and earned around Rs 84 crore at the domestic box office. While the film performed reasonably well commercially, it received a poor response from critics at the time. Years after its release, the film has found a loyal fan base online. Many viewers now revisit Tees Maar Khan for its comedy, memorable dialogues and songs, giving the film a second life long after its theatrical run ended.
